About Us
JCYM is an all-volunteer women’s philanthropic organization founded in 1961. Today, more than 250 members provide support to area philanthropic organizations through financial donations, over 60 service projects annually, and educational scholarships. Fundraising and hands-on service projects are equally important functions of the club. Since its founding, JCYM has given over $3,000,000 in financial contributions and scholarships. Members give over 20,000 service hours annually.
JCYM is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. JCYM does not employ staff nor occupy office space which allows the club to donate 100% of the proceeds from its fundraising projects to other organizations.
Philanthropy has been the hallmark of JCYM since the beginning. The club has provided support to numerous organizations, often creating programs to fill needs that are identified in the community. Currently, the club focuses on the following organizations:
KidsTLC, Inc.—founded by JCYM as Temporary Lodging for Children in 1972
Evergreen Community of Johnson County
Friends of Shawnee Indian Mission
Growing Futures Early Education Center (formerly Head Start of Shawnee Mission)
Johnson County Christmas Bureau
Safehome, Inc.
For 25 years (1991 thru 2016), the annual JCYM Home for the Holidays Homes Tour was enjoyed by many. Area homes were lavishly decorated by local decorators for public touring.
Service projects include projects with the residents at KidsTLC, working shifts at the Johnson County Christmas Bureau, reading to children at Growing Futures, sorting clothing for Safehome residents, playing bingo every week with residents at Evergreen Living Innovations nursing center, and much more. The club provides a wide variety of projects so that members can contribute their time in the way they prefer.
The JCYM tradition continues to promote and foster charitable, literary and educational purposes, by and through uniting congenial women of the community. If you are interested in supporting the community and helping others, in forming new friendships and participating in interest groups and social activities, please contact us!
We are large enough to make a positive impact on the community but small enough to offer lifelong friendships!
A Message from President Judy Moore
Like-Hearted Women...It Matters!
In May 2023, JCYM held its annual Installation Luncheon at Milburn Country Club to install new members and new board members for the 2023-24 club year and to give thanks to the outgoing board members.
A Homes Tour and Boutique event is planned for November, 2023. In addition philanthropy activities held throughout the club year will benefit our six philanthropies.
JCYM is a group of like-hearted women and our theme for the 2023-24 club year is...It Matters!
It matters that...

we help lessen the anxiety of TLC children with autism by making hundreds of weighted blankets,
-
we bring social engagement to our friends at Evergreen by providing monthly bingo,
-
we bring warmth and comfort to the women at Safehome by providing Thanksgiving dinners,
-
we show kindness and care by giving assistance to shoppers at Johnson County Christmas Bureau Holiday Shop,
-
we introduce fourth-grade school children to a historic experience at Shawnee Indian Mission by staffing "Trails through the Mission", and
-
we help children at Growing Futures explore creativity by decorating pumpkins for Halloween.
Children need to know they matter. Elderly persons need to know they matter. Teens need to know they matter. It's amazing what a group of like-hearted women can accomplish when they join together to make a difference.
JCYM women care! We care about our philanthropies, we care about the people our philanthropies impact and we care about each other.
What we do matters, from small things to big things--a smile, a pat on the back or kind words. Whatever we do, however we engage, It Matters!
